ASPIRING online business entrepreneurs are encouraged to participate in the digital economy and register their businesses with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).
However, Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh noted that Sarawakian entrepreneurs who intend to register their business with SSM must have a registered address in Peninsular Malaysia.
“My Ministry acknowledges that many of our small medium enterprises (SME) do not have a registered address in Peninsular Malaysia. Thus, my Ministry and the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development have created a special programme to enable the said registration.
“Under this programme, a special arrangement with SSM and an appointed agent was made to facilitate the registration where a special counter for online business registration is set up at SSM Sarawak,” Wong said in his ministerial winding up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting today.
He divulged that currently, more than 200 entrepreneurs had registered their online businesses through this programme.
Meanwhile, Wong revealed that in the later half of this year, his Ministry would coordinate and arrange the participation of entrepreneurs in seven trade fairs.
“My Ministry has disseminated the details of the trade fairs to relevant business associations for them to nominate their members to participate, and we encourage more new local companies who are ready to export to participate and seek for international market opportunities,” Wong said.
Among the trade fairs mentioned by Wong were the Food and Hotel Myanmar 2019 in Yangon (June 5 to June 7), Food Taipei 2019 in Taiwan (June 19 to June 22), the Pacific International Maritime Exposition (Pacific 2019) to be held on Oct 8 to Oct 10 and the Second China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held from Nov 5 to Nov 10 in Shanghai.
The other trade fairs mentioned are ANUGA 2019 (Oct 5 to Oct 9) in Germany, the Malaysia International Food and Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB 2019) in Kuala Lumpur from June 26 to June 28 as well as the Malaysia International Beverage Trade Network Fair 2019 (IBTN) from Oct 31 to Nov 2 in Kuala Lumpur.
